The Golden Age of Cinema

A location where motion pictures are exhibited. Initially the term was used for a theater, now known as the Crystal Palace, which was on the Isle of Wight, England. A picture is essentially a moving screen, most often flat, usually glass or sometimes plastic, designed to show a movie. It is often accompanied by a soundtrack and sometimes with sound. The word "moviemaker" came from the French word "mouvement" (a movable screen).

Today, the term cinema has developed to include a number of different places, not just the traditional movie theater. Cinema refers to the art of seeing movies. Movie theaters is where films are shown. Many people enjoy going to the cinema to watch a new release or to catch a new show. Cinema used to be the domain of the rich and famous and it is no longer limited to that.

With the advent of digital technology, changes have occurred within the boundaries of the cinema. Nowadays a large screen high definition television is standard in many homes and the quality of picture and sound for an outdoor screening is excellent. For many, the only experience of a movie that truly thrills and leaves the audience breathless is the cinema, so the evolution of cinema is greatly altering the way it is presented and therefore the type of audience that attends.

The size of cinemas has changed as well. Some cinemas are now being built at the scale of a town hall, instead of the traditional skyscraper. This has caused some problems with respect to construction, but in general the dimensions are now smaller than ever before. This allows for more natural views of the landscape shots in a movie, but it also means that more space is required for seating. This is not the case in earlier movies where shots were filmed in long takes where the camera was placed very close to the actor or actress, so the size of screen and number of seats became smaller. Nowadays, due to the increase in technology, most cinema-goers prefer a bigger screen for better viewing, although the type of film they watch also depends on their preference.

The type of technology that is being used in cinemas is also altering. Many modern cinemas are equipped with the latest digital projectors, known as LCD or LED, and surround sound systems. The audio system is another area in which technological innovation has improved greatly in recent years. Although some cinemas are using projection screens, others are using 3D or IMAX technology, because the former produces a much clearer image. In addition, many filmmakers prefer the bigger picture and sound quality of a Netflix subscription rather than a big screen, so it is unlikely that this will change any time soon.

Overall, the changes that have occurred within the cinema are good news for movie-goers all over the world. As more people opt for more convenient ways to watch their favourite films, it is likely that the once "envy of the movie-goer" will become common place. With improvements in picture quality, sound system quality and technology used in cinemas, cinema is sure to experience a golden age. This can only be good news for movie lovers like you!
